KōkuaLocal guidance
Community Guidelines
Help make KōkuaLocal a respectful place for Hawaiʻi residents posting small jobs and local helpers deciding which work fits them.
Participate respectfully
Treat the person on the other side of a job as a neighbor. Keep communication clear, relevant, and considerate, and give people room to ask questions, set boundaries, or decline a job.
- Respect schedules, homes, belongings, property, privacy, and personal boundaries.
- Ask for consent before entering a space, handling belongings, taking photos, or changing what was agreed.
- Do not pressure, harass, threaten, or repeatedly contact someone who has asked for space. Accept a pause, decline, or no.
Be clear about jobs and bids
Residents and helpers should have enough information to decide whether a job is a good fit. Clear descriptions and bids help everyone understand the same scope before work begins.
- Describe the category, task, approximate service area, timing, access conditions, and what is included.
- Include relevant size or weight details, stairs or other access limits, materials, supplies, and conditions that could change the work.
- Ask questions before assuming that extra work is part of the request.
- Keep bids aligned with the job details and the scope being described.
Keep work within marketplace scope
Supported everyday categories include moving or lifting, cleaning and organizing, errands and pickups, pet care, flat-pack furniture assembly, basic device and tech help, yard work, and other listed household categories. Keep each request small and limited in scope.
Licensed, permit-required, specialized, hazardous, or otherwise unsupported work is outside KōkuaLocal. Category boundaries include:
- Pet care is for everyday non-medical care, not veterinary or medical tasks.
- Device and tech help does not include wiring or sharing account passwords.
- Furniture and truck loading does not include driving or full-service moving.
- Household hauling, junk removal, packing, and dumpster loading exclude hazardous materials and other restricted items.
- Electrical, plumbing, structural, roofing, tree work, and other specialized work are not small marketplace tasks.
Keep the scope clear
Confirm any changes before proceeding. Pause or decline when the requested task no longer matches the listed scope, details, or category. To review current listings, browse open jobs, or learn more from the FAQ and use the companion Safety Guidance for safety-specific direction.
